Lakewood, CO

Lakewood, CO, is a Home Rule Municipality located just west of Denver. It is considered part of the Denver-Aurora-Broomfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. Denver was originally founded in 1858 as a gold-mining town, while the development of the Lakewood area did not begin until 1889. Charles Welch and W.A.H. Loveland were two of the most influential figures in the early development of Lakewood, which started as a small 13-block community.

Lakewood was incorporated in 1969 with a population over 90,000. Today, Lakewood is home to nearly 143,000 residents and is the fifth most populous city in Colorado. Lakewood was named an All-America City in 2011 and maintains an elected mayor and ten-member city council. The area’s largest employers are government services, as well as companies that include Einstein Bros. Bagels and FirstBank Holding Co.
